hidden files
As recent user of fedora 4 I discovered that in my home directory I have quite a few hidden files. I have read the q&a in the general forum on hidden files and what I wasn't able to find in them was 1. what are they for? 2. how did they get there? 3. do I do anything with them i.e. remove? I have to say that it is great to be able to get such comprehensive help as I have in these forums.

They mostly are configuration files of apps. e.g. Which skin you are using for xmms saved in hidden .xmms

They are placed there with apps installations.

Highly recommend DON'T remove them except you know what you are doing. When an app have been uninstalled, you can remove its hidden file or folder.
