Unhappy Video Driver Install Problem + Sound Problem

Problem # 1: I can't install the Nvidia drivers, as the computer locks up after "telinit 3". It freezes at
Starting Anacron [Done]
After that it it totally unresponisive.
Problem # 2: Even after reading that ALSA version 1.0.9a is compatible with the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value, I still get no sound. Sound is unmuted in top-right corner, driver being used is snd-emu10k1. The system recognizes the card, but no sound. . Attached is a screenshot of AlsaMixer.
System is AMD64 FC4. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.
PS:
Entire system works fine in WinXP, there are no cooling, memory, or HD issues as far as I can tell.

Thank you for everything. I was able to figure out video on my own, but with sound, I followed your instructions, and it worked! Thank you so much.
