Better display resolution?

Hello,

I currently have an ATI AIW 9800pro graphics card. I do realize that Ati provides limited support for 3D drivers for linux. However, I simply would like better screen resolution than 800X600. 800X600 is currently the best resolution offered by fedora, how do I improve this? Some advice would be nice. Thank you.

If your graphics card supports it, just add it in front of the list of resolutions in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Be careful, though: if your card can't handle it, your X server will crash.

It seems that for one reason or another I am not able to write a better resolution in to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I am able to write "1024x768" into the area where the depth is16 but it wont save and stay in the area where the depth is 24. Furthermore, it is not showing up in the display settings. I'm not sure whats going wrong. Please help.
Here's what I'm seeing:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "ATI Radeon All In Wonder AGP"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
