firefox does not load javascript windows

hi

i'm running the latest firefox version but when i click a javascript pop-up window, firefox said to install the plugin.
When i click the button, firefox can't find the plugin and tells me to install it manually.
When i click the manual button nothing happens either (no website opens)
So i need help on how i can install the java runtime environment manually (because this is what firefox recommends) so i can open javascript windows in firefox

thx

What you're looking for is probably the very first post in this forum. It's a sticky.

Hi:

A few questions / thoughts:

What is your out-put of:

$ ls /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

$ ls /opt/jre1.5.0_03/plugin/i386/ns7/

You should have libjavaplugin_oji.so listed in both ?
If you do then check FireFox /Edit/Preferences/WebFeatures/ to ensure that Java has been enabled. You can also type about : plugins in Firefox to see if the Java Plugin is listed.

If it is both listed and enabled in FF then check to see that you do not have another or previous java plugin installation on a different Browser still present?. Since, if I recall correctly, you can only configure one Browser to work with a Java plugin at a time.

If it is not listed then I believe that you have missed something when creating a symbolic link as described here :

http://www.java.com/en/download/help...500.xml#enable

hth

hi

i'm just a beginner and i don't know much about linux

the first output is:

"ls /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/"

mozplugger.so nphelix.so nphelix.xpt opensc-signer.so

the second path does not exists, but i have installed the java runtime by downloading it from the sun website

If you can explain me what to do, i would be happy, because i don't know how to fix it

(in firefox java and javascript are enabled)

thx

i believe you should have libjavaplugin_oji.so in your "ls /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins"

so goto /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins from a console, and type

"ln -s /link_to_where_you_extracted_java/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so"

of course, your architecture may be different, but you should get the idea. hope this helps.
