ESD sound deamon problem

Hi!

I recently discovered that gnome is not starting esd sound daemon, even if i check the option to start sound server. This is causing some problems, for example hanging on logout.

I've tried to start esd on rc.local and everything works fine in the first login. Than, on logout gnome kills esd and it won't start it on login, causing it to hang. Then, I have to manually start esd.

What is blocking gnome from starting esd sound daemon?
