RRDtool inclusion

Where would be the best place to suggest the inclusion of RRDtool in the Fedora Core releases?

I've used this tool for quite some time now, and it's invaluable on server installs. I also use it on my desktop machines to monitor CPU, disk & RAM usage.

I don't know if this has even been discussed before, but I'd like to suggest it's inclusion along with a basic default setup (CPU, RAM, disk & net usage) with basic http served page to view output. It may not be essential stuff for some people, but it's such a non-intrusive product that the overhead is definitely worth it.

Any help appreciated

Duncan

I know that it's available in Extras and several other repos, but I'm trying to get at it's possible inclusion as a fully fledged monitoring tool in the Core release.

Installing the RPM's from the repos also leaves you having to create your own databases, monitoring scripts & graphing routines. It would be nice if the average user could access these kinds of things without having to create all that stuff themselves. I know it's not rocket science from having set it up to monitor all aspects of corporate servers on several occasions, but it's certainly beyond the average user.

I guess my point is to have an rrdtoolmonitor.0.1.noarch.rpm (or similar) that depends on the RRDTool rpm's. This rrdtoolmonitor rpm would provide a default configuration that allows users to have their system monitored 24x7 without having to think about it.

Cheers

Well its not in Fedora 11 and I reckon it should be too so I'll bump this post for a bit more exposure
Mind you I should say I'm buggered if I can get it to work properly. Maybe tha'ts why they didn't include it . You have to spend a month trying to learn how to use it and then it simply refuses to do it properly
