problems tunneling SOLVED! TY!

Server is 192.168.1.5 on the lan. Router has the DMZ pointed there, and in the server's network config I aliased the wan ip to the lan ip. Server has FC4 x86-64, with vnc 4.1.1-10.1 on it. I can SSh in using putty with zero problems. I'm trying to use Tight VNC to tunnel through Putty. I can ping the server successfully. The Putty version is whatever I downloaded last week from the official putty site.

In Putty/SSH/Tunnels, I have forwarded port 5900 to destination:

localhost:5900
localhost:5901
192.168.1.5:5900
192.168.1.5:5901
WANip:5900
WANip:5901

To no avail. I opened the firewall ports on the client machine for tcp 22, 5900, 5901. I don't anticipate have more than 2 instances of vnc ever running concurrently.

I've verified vnc is running.

Every single steeeeenking time I try to VNC in, I get "Failed to connect to server". I'd really appreciate some help!

Last, I'm a noob. Thanks kindly for reading,

Dave

For me long as SSH connects try this in PuTTy

under tunnel
Source Port enter (5902) - or higher really what ever you want here either 5902 <greater or 5900 >less
Destination enter localhost:5901 (If Xvnc is started on display 1)

depending on how you setup VNC you may need to start vncserver type following
vncserver (hit enter) should display some info saying started and on what display most likely :1

Now in your VNC client type following using 5902 for source port example above
localhost:2 (note if you use anything 59XX type digit in after 59)
Example if used 5912 = localhost:12
If you used a off the wall port for source port like 7777 might have to specify localhost:7777

Try that and see what happens you don't (DO NOT) need to open ports 5901 on server to VNC
this is prupose of a tunnel all traffic is routed through the ssh port, also have to start a SSH session to connect. once you are connect you can type logout in PuTTy terminal and should stay connected in VNC

Once you are done with VNC session, open terminal in your VNC window and type following

vncserver -kill :1 (or what ever display it started on)

hopefully this work for you!!!!!!
