(SOLVED) ati driver 8.16.20 x700pro PCIE

I recently installed the latest ATI driver (Livna version) for FC4, kernel 2.6.12-1.1398 (not SMP). My video card is a x700pro PCIE.
The module fglrx loads fine, DRI is working, but when I try to logout from my session (KDE with KDM) or to shutdown the pc from the KDE session, the screen goes black. The keyboard is completely dead and there's no way to switch to a console.
I can only hit the reset button on the case. Also, boot.log, dmesg and Xorg.0.log show no errors at all.
The same happens with the official ATI release of the drivers.
I already tried playing with the AGPGART option in xorg.conf, with the vesafb options in grub.conf (nomtrr, vram, nofb) and with the settings of mtrr (according to hints found on the rage3d linux forum, on various howto found on the web and on various thread of this forum). No results at all.
The previous version of the drivers had a different (but always strange and annoying) behaviour: if i start X with DRI enabled, i get a black screen without any way out; if I start X without DRI and then restart with it, then it works. This was reported by other users in this forum, but the solution (nor even the explanation) wasn't found, AFAIK.
I send today a "ticket" (they call it so - a bug report/drivers feedback) to the ATI Customer Care.
I'd like that other users experiencing the same issue do the same, and also I'd like to know if anyone has a explanation-solution-workaround for this.
Thanks for your attention and reading.
Regards,
Locutus

Today I checked the status of my ticket at the ATI website, and I found that they state that it is "RESOLVED"...
Too bad they don't say how it is resolved, nor they provide any link to an explanation. Maybe the next release of the drivers will work...

The version 8.18.6 of the driver really solved all. The livna version (thanks!) works perfeclty. Not tried the ati installer.
