NFS Stale handles

I have a Fedora 3 nfs server and a Fedora 3 nfs client. The client is writing constantly to the nfs mount for hours at a time until it reports a stale handle and can't continue. The server hasn't rebooted or been changed in any way. What could be causing this? Where could I start to look for the issue? Thanks.
