Smile Mic not functioning

Hello,
Firstly, I would like to say hi to all. I am a new joinee to this forum.

Yup, would like get into the business of information at the first go

I have installed Fedora Core 3 on my machine the sound card is working fine but the mic in the headphone is not functioning. Is there any additional driver that needs to be installed for the mic in Fedora???

Looking forward for a solution.
Cheers

open a terminal and become root using "su -", then run "alsamixer" and check all the mic settings in there. It's a good place to start.

headphone or microphone? Try turning the "line jack sense" on/off if you have one...

No, I mean try turning "line jack sense", "headphone jack sense" and "external amplifier" on/off in alsamixer (see my earlier post). Use the "m" key to mute/unmute (off/on) channels. Don't be fooled by the "external amp" question, I don't have an external amp but this needs to be "on" on my system.

hi fsck,
i appreciate the info that u posted. I would like to share a piece of infomation on this issue - I got my mic functioning through the volume control option available in the menu. What i have understood for this problem is that mic does not require a driver - pls correct me if am wrong.
