FC4 Video and Audio with Compaq Presario 2200

Hello,

I have installed Fedora Core 4 on my recently aquired Compaq Presario 2200. Install went ok. However, post install revealed that the sound card fails to initialize, and the resolution only goes up to 800x600. The machine came with Windows XP home already installed: the embeded wifi, audio and video al function properly there of course. So the problem is software, not hardware.

I have seen information on how to enable the wifi via ndiswrapper, I have not finished attempting install of the drivers just yet.

Please advise. I'd rather not use Windows full time.

Peace.

system-config-sound stalls when I attempt to test the sound, that's when it throws up the error messages.

Well I haven't attempted to enable the modem as I don't really use dialup.

Maybe i can help,, not sure if this exact line will fix your but it did fix mine.

--------------------

I have a Compaq Presario V2000, running Fedora Core 4. I too had no sound after installing FC4, it seemed to see the card in the log, but no sound.

For some reason FC4 seemed think my on-board Intel Sound Card was a USB Device.

So adding the following line to "/etc/hotplug/blacklist" got it working:
Quote:
snd-intel8x0m
Reboot, and see if that works for you. If you have a different intel driver then replace the above line with the name of the driver your card would use.

Hope that helps!
