Printing from Windows XP to a FC3 box

Hi all,

I have a HP LaserJet 4050 printer connected to a FC3 box. I'm trying to print from a Win XP (SP2) to the FC3 box. Samba is running. Any ideas on how to make it work?

Have you installed the printer driver on the XP box?
If not, go to My Network Places > View Workgroup Computers
Access the FC3 box > right click the printer icon > choose install printer and follow the instructions.
You may need to modify your firewall settings to allow the Xp box to access FC3 box.

The machine is not seen in "View WorkGroup Computers". What do I need to do to make it seen?

Have you set up a workgroup on the FC3 box and XP box? What abbout hosts on the network?

Okay,

I did have some break-through. Samba is running, I can print to the HP printer. So it seems that the documentation found at

and other places worked. The problem is not with samba,... it is with the firewall. When I disabled the firewall,... the printing worked with no problem.

So now the problem is,..... how do I configure the firewall so that I can allow other XP workstations to see the FC3 box?

Problem Solved!!!

Okay, I had to go and allow the firewall (System Settings -> Security Level) to open up the port 631:tcp. I'm running CUPS. Now I can print from Xp and 2000 machines.
