I have a problem getting FC4 to boot after installing fc4 onto a system with win2k and knoppix.
Before installing FC4 from DVD the system had drive C: with win2k (ntfs) and drive D with another ntfs partition (300 GB) and additional partions (swap and ext3) for a knoppix installation (100 GB). Boot loader was lilo in the MBR on drive C and both windows and knoppix booted fine with win2k as the default.
I wanted to install FC4 into the space occupied by knoppix (overwriting it). I used the automatic install onto drive D: and had it erase all linux partitions. I accepted the use of grub and defaults. The partition info looked fine and installation went with no problems.
Upon the first reboot, I was surprised to see the Lilo boot loader screen with the same OS selections as before. When I selected 'linux' to boot it failed with some complaint about not finding the kernel. Now I told the install to go to drive D but did the installer try to put grub into the MBR on that drive instead of drive C? It appears that grub was not installed properly and didn't overwrite lilo in the mbr of drive C. Win2k boots properly but complains that 'drive E' is not formatted. There shouldn't be a 'drive E' as all other drives are cdrom/dvd or card readers.
What did I do wrong? Should I just reinstall or is there way to fix this?
