install will not recognize monitor

I am trying to install Fedora 4 on a HP LH4 Server. I have an old 17" monitor connected. I was not able to use graphical mode during install, so I used text mode and it seems to have installed. But when I boot the GUI still comes up all screwed up -- mulitiple vertical stripes across screen, content unreadable. I tried using Lowres and Resolution 640x480 but neither worked. I'm not familiar enough with the Linux command lines to live with it in text mode. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks

Does when you get out of the install try doing system-config-display [This may be the wrong command its been a long time for me.] and setting your lcd to generic and its normal maximum resolution. Hopefully that will fix things.

What kind of graphics card is in the machine?

You probably need to get some parameters for your monitor (a CRT I presume) and put them in your xorg.conf. The critical ones are vertical and horizontal refresh rates.

Shadow Skill,
Thanks, but I tried that. Even that screen, when it comes up is messed up.

Omega Blue,

I think you hit the issue. How do I edit the xorg.conf file?
