Dovecot user does not exsist

i could not get dovcot to start out of the box (new install) so I tried cyrus and that was even harder it seemed to get to work and never did so I whent back to dovecot but now it wont start due to it thinks there is no user dovecot but there is??

I dont care how i do it i just need pop3 or imap access to users email can anyone help?
