Hey lads I'm pretty new to linux etc but i'm a programming student and would be interested in designing front ends for some of the command line only apps. Any idea on where i could get a start on something like that ?

Learn some python, then learn some pygtk. That's what most of the redhat gui frontends are done in I think. Probably the best way to go about that would be to have a look at the code of some of the existing frontends. You'll probably want to subscribe to the fedora configuration tools mailing list and read all the archives too.
Sorry i wasn't really too clear. what i meant was would anyone know a website etc which could provide info on how to actually send commands to and recieve output back from the terminal from a gui.
