wg311v3 unknown device message

Hi all

Could you please help?

I am building a new computer for my old hard drive loaded with FC3 with kernel 2.6.11

I have a Gigabyte 7VT600P-RZ mobo with a AMD Duron 750 chip.

The system is working fine but will not recognise my Netgear WG311v3 wireless adapter.

/sbin/lspci describes it as "Ethernet controller: Marvell Technologies Group Ltd.: Unknown device 1faa(rev 03)"

/sbin/iwconfig shows
lo no wireless extensions

sit() no wireless extensions.

Can anyone help.

Thanks

Kevin

I believe you will need to compile the madwifi drivers for the Netgear Card

download from here:

http://madwifi.otaku42.de/madwifi-cvs-current.tar.bz2

extract files, make, make install (as root)

modprobe ath_hal, modprobe ath_pci

After this the card should be detected. I'm going off memory here, so be sure to read the install instructions in the madwifi download.

Thanks for your help.

I have downloaded the file and installed it /usr/local/src but running Make had an error uudecode not found.

I have now downloaded sharutils-4.4 and ./configured but had other errors.

Is there a simple way with RPM?

Regards

Kevin

Please see http://atrpms.net/dist/fc3/madwifi/

I believe you will need both the driver and the kmdl matching your running kernel - uname -r.

Good luck!

OK Found the right one.

Downloaded and installed.

Ran modprobe ath_hal and received the following

ath_hal: no version for "struct_module"found: kernel tainted
ath_hal: module license 'Proprietary' taints kernel.

Should I start again?

regards

Kevin

Did you go to the site? Do you see there is a package called madwifi-0.9.4.12-16.rhfc3.at.i386.rpm and one called madwifi-kmdl-2.6.11-1.27_FC3-0.9.4.12-16.rhfc3.at.i686.rpm. Do you see madwifi-kmdl?

I THINK you need both. If you do rpm -Uvh madwifi-kmdl-2.6.11-1.27_FC3-0.9.4.12-16.rhfc3.at.i686.rpm and it fails dependency for the other, you will know. Make sure the kmdl you download matches your running kernel.

I think you can ignore it.
