Bare Minimum Installation

Hi folks,

I want to setup a firewalled gateway for my homenet, which will also serve as a print server (printer attached to LPT1), and as an NFS server for my local clients (for backup purposes). My system of choice is FC4, I know there are far better minimalistic linux distros for use on router dedicated machines, but I'd like to use FC (cause im simply used to it). Now my question:

When you install there is this option "minimal install", what in fact would choosing this install? Everything I need is a minimal linux kernel (the less code the better!), iptables (included in kernel) nfs server and thats it. I dunno exactly but afaik the "minimal installation" installs much more (?) Also, which kernel is used with the minimal install, e.g. I wont need USB support or all the like...

Thanx in advance

The minimal install will include the same exact kernel as the full install. If you want a slimmer kernel, you have to compile it from source.
