FC4 & RDP (of some sort)

I just completed my server FC4 install and everything came up perfect after the first reboot. Now, I'd "like" to set my server on the rack and manage it remotely from my Windows PC. Is there some sort of "RDP like" client that I can use that will allow me to log onto the Linux box and work with a desktop rather than telnet?

Since I'm new at Linux, I'm hoping for something GUI...OR, if someone can point me in teh direction of some good command line text, I'll consider that was well.

Thanks.

I'd say FreeNX is what you need: see

http://fedoranews.org/contributors/rick_stout/freenx/

Another alternative is VNC (e.g. http://www.realvnc.com): this is installable with yum but requires some configuration on the server side to get it to start an approapriate X-session i.e. Gnome, rather than TWM. However, FreeNX has much better performance than VNC.

Finally, if you've got an X-server on your Windows box (Exceed or Cygwin/X) you can use XDMCP 'out the box' with Fedora. XDMCP is the X remote desktop protocol and is really the grand-daddy to Windows RDP. FreeNX is a highly compressed adaption of the X protocol.

Actually the VNC client and server are included in Fedora Core and are very easy to use. It is also extremely versatile in how it can be configured. There are multiple discussions and howtos in the forum. A search will find them pretty quickly.

It is FreeNX that is the alternative. And while it does have better performance than VNC, it is a little more tricky to install and use.

I recommend independantly researching both, then deciding for yourself.

Jason

ok...

good information, but I want to remote into my FC4 server from a Windows computer. Would I use my RDP client or does FC4 have a windows based client I need to install?

PS: thanks for all the replies and the info...its been informative.
