How to build my custom kernel

Hello.

probably this is a newbie question, but, a long time i dont compile any kernel (since FC1) and has FC has changed a lot..

yesterday i've upgraded my FC4 kernel to the latest : kernel-2.6.12-1.1398_FC4.rpm and rebooted my computer.

when installing NVIDIA drivers, i got an error that kernel sources were not installed....
i've then downloaded and have installed kernel-2.6.12-1.1398_FC4.src.rpm.

the funny question was: in /usr/src/ i had 2 directories:
one called redhat, and the other called kernel-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 with the sources in it...
can i now install NVIDIA drivers with no problem ??(after intalling kernel-2.6.12-1.1398.src.rpm)

if i download, untar and follow the instructions in the docs of linux-2.6.12.3.tar.bz2, can i install a new kernel in FC4 with no problems ??

i'm sorry, but regarding kernel installation i have a lot of issues
how can i build a custom kernel, using the .config file of a stock kernel ?? (just having alredy selected some options - i dont understand everything they give us to choose in options)

Cheers

You don't need to install kernel source or compile a custom kernel to use the nVidia drivers. What you need is the "kernel-devel" package:
Code:
yum install kernel-devel
If you really want to build a custom kernel, read the Kernel Compilation Tutorial that describes all the steps needed to build a kernel from the .src.rpm.
