glxgears FPS decreases with Video card upgrade.

I had ATI Radeon 9200 and glxgears (a basic 2D benchmark that comes with X) number of was around 1250 FPS. I upgraded the video card to Radeon 9600 Pro and FPS came down to 300 FPS. Sounds very suspecious. Any ideas? Xorg.log look fine.

Aren't you required to reinstall the proper drivers when changing a vid card? I mean, your old driver worked for the 9200 but when you upgraded to the 9600 aren't you supposed to install drivers for that, or does one ATI driver work for all ATI cards?
Have you tried to reinstall/upgrade the driver?

Yes, native X.org Radeon driver handles 9600 as well.

Yes, it also handles nVidia cards.. in 2d only. You have to install the driver from the nVidia site if you want 3d. I am wondering if you have to do this with ATI as well. I was getting 600 FPS from my nVidia card after a fresh FC3 install. But, I got 7,200 FPS (huge improvement) after installing the nVidia driver. Wondering if this applies to your card, but I could be wrong.

wow thats a big improvement. I will try to find out about ATI drivers.

1200 FPS on 9200 and 300 9600 pro both were with the same X.org dirver. I will check more closely if there are any difference in output. I wanted to find out if people think it odd or not.
