Arrow dual and/or triple monitor support?

does fedora core 4 support dual and/or triple monitor setup? I see in the display settings that there is a place for dual output. I have enabled this and I can't get anymore than the first monitor to come up. I have a 1 output agp and a dual pci card. All three outputs work under windows xp.

any advice?

Fedora (actually xorg) supports as many monitors as your computer can handle. However, getting it to work usually requires getting your hands dirty manually editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

The settings usually depend on which video chip and drivers you are using (nvidia or ati). In the case of nvidia, refer to the readme for instructions on how to set it up. I you have an nvidia card, I have two sample config files for two different types of dual-head (twinview & xinerama) that could help get you started.

Jason

ok, cool.

My agp video card with one output is an NVidea GeForce 4

My dual output is a ATI Radeon - VisionTek

Yes, please post or send your config file. Thanks!

Hmmm two video cards will probably be quite tricky. I recommend installing the proprietary drivers for each card first. And make sure to read (and re-read) all relevant documentation. Then, configure each card to work individually before attempting a dual-head setup (backup your configs too). Once you have both cards working individually, then try a dual-head xinerama setup using both cards. If that works, you may even be able to extend the xinerama to more than one monitor per card.

I've attached both sample xinerama and twinview configs - but these are only examples. The specific settings will probably differ on your system - which is why reading the driver and xinerama docs is so crucial.

Note: Twinview is an "nvidia-only" option. But I'm sure ati has an equivelant. Xinerama is universal.

hth,
Jason

crap. I think this is a little over my head.

I appreciate you posting the file, though. Maybe I'll come across something I need to refer to them.

I was wanting to run fedora on my amd64 box I'm on, then run winXP inside of vmware, but I may have to do the opposite, at least until I figure everything out.

thanks again
