Printer no longer works after upgrade from FC3 to FC4

Hi.

I upgraded from FC3 to FC4 and now my Epson 950 printer no longer works. It send the document to spool ok, but it goes no further. Looking under KDE Control Center the printer is listed, but the state is 'Stopped (accepting jobs)'. I then looked in the CUPS error log file and saw the following:

E [15/Jul/2005:21:21:44 +0100] [Job 67] Unable to open HAL device "hal:///org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_usb_device_4b8_5_100_-1_L76010306031059330_0"
E [15/Jul/2005:21:21:44 +0100] PID 31847 stopped with status 1!

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks

Andrew.

Have you tried removing your Epson printer and recreating it? It sounds like the device name used by udev might have changed between releases, so you are using an old name that does not exist anymore.

Run system-config-printer, enter root's password, and create a new printer. I wouldn't delete your old one until the new one is working just in case. How did you manage to setup your printer under FC3?

In FC3 it installed itself when I plugged it in. I have done as you say and it is now working again. Thanks.
