cpuspeed not working on fc4 x86_64

I am using fc4 x86_64 with kernel 2.6.12-1.1390_FC4
powernow-k8 is compiled into the kernel (checked config)
when I start the cpuspeed service it closes imediatly without showing an error.
when I uncoment
DRIVER="powernow-k8" it won't work eithier because it says that there is no such module (powernow-k8 is compilied into the kernel y not m)
cool 'n' quit is enabled in the bios.
any hints how to fix this?
