Question Sound Does Not Work

After installation, the sounddection module fails to activate my sound card (CS4236B). The sound card works fine in Win98 (this is a dual-boot box). Any ideas? Signed, Perplexed-

Question

I played around with the alsamixer program and now I have very faint sounds when I run the sound card detector. What will increase the level? I put all the controls at max in alsamixer. Still perplexed!
