Is the xmms-mp3 plugin available for FC4?

I did a reinstall of FC4 yesterday. Installed xmms, then tried to install mp3 plugin from freshrpms. It seems they no longer have mp3 plugin. Also tried atrpms and dag. Not available.

Where can I get the mp3 plugin? I do not use livna because its packages conflict with my existing repo supplied packages.

Also can someone throw some light on why the mp3 plugin has been removed from these repos. Any legal issues?

Thanking you,
Vishnu Murahari Rao.

# rpm -ihv
http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linu....fc.noarch.rpm
All in one line then

# yum -y install xmms-mp3 gstreamer-plugins-mp3 libmad libid3tag

It will install mp3 plugins for xmms e Rhythmbox

Sorry, but this won't work because the package xmms-mp3 is not available on freshrpms for Fedora Core 4. Also aalib which is required by mplayer is unavailable for FC4. I don't know why, but the freshrpms RPM base looks incomplete and that's a problem for someone doing a fresh install, not an update from a Fedore Core 3.

To add livna.org as a source for yum see http://rpm.livna.org/configuration.html#Core4

Hey foolish,

I dont want livna in my list of repos because its packages confilct with my existing ones. Is there any other repos from where I can get the mp3 plugin.

Bytesniper,
I tried the FC3 plugin. but give me problems. runs but then in the middle of a song xmms will just close.

I would like to know why the mp3 plugin for FC4 is not available? Legal issues?

As you can see on rpmfind.net, there is no xmms-mp3 package for Fedora Core 4 at all!
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...query=xmms-mp3
Except on livna which is not referenced. Here's the direct link to the wanted rpm: http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/R...n.3.4.i386.rpm

AleMar,

Not with a fresh install of FC4. You must have installed some other software along the way which is allowing you to play the MP3's.

I also installed the XMMS rpm, and it has the mp3 plugin. From Fedora Extras, or Freshrpms, I'm not sure which one it was. I'm running Fedora 4, x86_64 version.

Also, I believe mp3 playback support was left out b/c of it's questionable license, as Fedora is striving to be a 100% free distro and are being extra careful. *Slightly* similar issue with the DVD playback, in a way.

I don't know, I just installed xmms mp3 and skins about five hours ago...worked fine. I am however finding it next to impossible to DL Mplayer.

Hey stmiller, 92b16vx,

Could you tell us where you found those mp3 plugins. If you did a yum install what repos do you have.

I am sure fedora-extras and freshrpms do not have the plugins.

I remember installing xmms 1.2.10-16, and xmms skins, xmms-cdread, and xmms flac. The mp3 plugin was already in XMMS. I didn't install any special plugin. Hope this helps.
