USB memory stick: How to mount?

I'm using FC3. This is the output of dmesg after plugging in an USB memory stick:
Code:
usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using address 6
scsi3 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Vendor: Generic Model: USB Flash Disk Rev: 2.00
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
sdb: Unit Not Ready, sense:
Current : sense key Unit Attention
Additional sense: Not ready to ready change, medium may have changed
sdb : READ CAPACITY failed.
sdb : status=1, message=00, host=0, driver=08
Current sd: sense key Unit Attention
Additional sense: Not ready to ready change, medium may have changed
sdb: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
sdb: assuming drive cache: write through
 sdb:
I tried this command:
Code:
mount -t vfat -o umask=000 /dev/sdb /media/usb
but it just got stuck and did nothing for a long time.

It's a PQI 512MB stick. Any ideas on how to mount it?

try putting it in your /etc/fstab file so the system has it when it starts up?

I don't exactly need it every time my system starts. Most of the time, I don't have the stick connected to my computer.

Hi Johny,

Well, your

mount -t vfat -o umask=000 /dev/sdb /media/usb

helped me out with my Creative Muvo on my FC3 box (though I suspect I probably need to upgrade the kernel )

That said, I just wanted to express my appreciation for your post. I hope the rest of the problem was resolved for you somewhere. If not, let me know. I'm about to post to a LUG I'm a member of to see if they can suggest another 'quick' solution so that I don't have to bugger with the command line (it's great that it's there though for those moments when you 'REALLY' need it).

You can put in a noauto flag.

I'm not sure why your mount command did not work. does directory /media/usb exist?

Those dmesg entries looked discouraging, but I don't have any particular suggestions. Here's what I get when I stick in my 128MB JOGR USB stick:
Quote:
usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
hub 1-5:1.0: USB hub found
hub 1-5:1.0: 1 port detected
usb 1-5.1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 3
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
