Hi People,
I have been searching the net for a solution to my problem with samba. I came across this forum and hopefully I can ask for your assistance?
I have a Win XP Pro system and a RH FC3 system. I can mount windows shares without a problem, "mount -t smbfs //winxp/[share] /mounts/dot8/" I am asked for a password and away we go, no worries.
Go the other way, from XP, Start>Run> \\linux\[share] and I end up with a window saying that I do not have permission to log onto this resource from this computer. At first I thought it was encrypted passwords, but altering that to the disable made no differenct, the share on FC3 does exist, browsable = yes, read-only = no, security has been set to both user and share but no difference either way.
I then tried to log on from my win98 laptop using, start>Run>\\linux and it at least showed me a window containing all shares on the FC3 system, which to my suprise was ONLY ../root. The 2 shares I had setup, /music and /work where not to be seen.
It appears to me that samba is only allowing root to log on, which is not happening from the WinXP or Win98 systems.
Samba on FC3 is 3.0.8.
Anyone want to have a stab at my problem?
Many thanks for your assistance.
Regards
Mark
