Stop using BlueCurve / Clearlooks, instead use the 'Simple'-theme, and disable services you don't use. That will speed up your box a lot !

Using FC4 to connect to my samsung mobile using wireless

Installed FC4 on my Dell Inspiron 600m Laptop and cruising via 10/100 ethernet to connect to internet.But , only issue is how do i connect my Laptop to my samsung mobile via wireless.I installed all the wireless drivers and it even shows that ETH1 is active.How do I use it..I mean which Application shld I use to connect?..

sry I am a newbie and want to learn Linux..

You know several idea's have been floating around for a while now, howtos, guides, tips & tricks.

Tonight I was checking out the Ubuntu site as I am exploring the Ubuntu LiveCD on my lappie when I get time. If you have not seen it, the Unofficial Ubuntu 5.04 Starter Guide is more comprehensive than the title would suggest. I find this guide comprehensive, consise and easy to read. I really think Fedora needs something like this as part of the official project. What do you think?

The fedora FAQ's pretty much meets those needs. It is not as long as ubuntu because there no need to MESS around with some of gnome's settings.

The ubuntu guide is very good indeed and same applies to fedora's faq. Each distro has one some are more extended than others.

Not trying to diss the Linux community but why is it so hard for a new user (Such as myself) to obtain help? My situation for example: I am a new user and I recently installed Fedora Core 2. Everything went fine, it installed, i created user accounts etc. BUT when i went looking on the internet for a guide to show me how to setup networking, why is it that in a community as big as the linux one, can no one tell me how in the fugde to do it. Forums are ok only if someone has started a topic on the exact thing your looking for? Can someone please tell me why there isn't a single website in the entire world that will just tell me step by step how to do things on Fedora Core 2 and also if they could tell me STEP BY STEP how to network Fedora Core 2 to Fedora Core 2 and also FDC2 to WINXP Pro. If anyone can put me out of my misery that would be EXCELLENT.

It would be great to have all the how to's in one spot. FedoraFAQ has been instrumental in helping me set up my box, but there are a few others that should be included, though they have links to the others, it's be nice to get it all in one stop.

A couple things I think would help would be a more detailed desscription of the system-config-services as far as what affects disabling each one will have on desktop/laptop/server etc...I am sure I have a bunch running that I could turn off, but I don't know how they will effect my computer doing things. And I good set up for routione maintainance. Like setting up for daily cron jobs, updating filesystems, cleaning yum, good stuff like that to help keep HD space maximize and keep taskings in working order.

Yeah, that is pretty good, but what I am looking for here is something that is of a lighter nature, stuff that is not really that important, but is kinda useful once you hear of it. I'll give a few examples of what I've thought of /got submitted so far

1) how to print inspirational quotes when opening a shell
2) How to set firefox to make use of the default KDE print manager, rather than its own
3) Few tips in less (like press / to search. Many people know this in theory, but do not know that when they read a manual page, they can just search like this)
4) How to make nautilus open all folders in the same window

For GNOME users: yumex
For KDE users: kyum

Simply yum install and say goodbye to the command line.

Alernatively, look for computer library that provide a Fedora Core 2 guide. It should be on sales.

Wow, that's nice now disabling/enabling repos is easy for us n00bers :P Except the manual only tells you that you have to be root, not how to login as for Kyum.
