apgart compiled into kernel, no 3D

Hi I have a Clevo D870P (ATI Mobility 9700, 1440x900 res, 256MB VRAM). I seem to remember in FC3, that I just had to recompile the kernel, specifically, setting the APGART to a module. This would allow me to get fglrx and dri working within xorg.

Quick question is; in FC4 I have downloaded the kernel-devel for my running kernel (2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp), is this the "new" way of distributing the kernel source? Or do I need to find a true kernel source as in the past.

Reason is, I can run make xconfig and modifiy the kernel fine. I just can't seem to compile it. Before I look into compiliation errors elsewhere (e.g. GCC4 issue?) , I just wanted to rule in or out that I am even working at the right level.

Thanks in advance

Declan

The kernel-devel package just installs the kernel headers required for compiling modules. In order to get the full kernel source install the source rpm for your kernel. This will install the vanilla source in the /usr/src/redhat/BUILD directory. You can then apply all the Fedora patches to the kernel by running
Code:
rpmbuild -bp --target i686 /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/kernel-2.6.spec
You will probably want to replace some values (like the target and possibly spec file name) with whatever your system requires. After that finishes though you should be able to modify the source as normal from the /usr/src/redhat/BUILD directory.
