Question grub fails

i'm using Fedora Core 4 DVD
*so i check the checksum before installing and it passed
*i tryed like 3 times to install with/without messing with the loader(grub)'s options
*everytime after install when i reboot, then select from bios's boot menu the hard disk i have only for linux(i have 2 hdds) and then i get a half the screen full of "99 99 99 99 99 99 " and that's it
the hdd is ok cose i know other linux distros worked on it, what could be the prob ?

If it is grub you can try to boot with the first cd in rescue mode. have the system mount your filesystem. If this works, chroot the /mnt/sysimage to / then run grub-install /dev/hd? check your grub.conf file if that is correct. If that is all correct reboot your system and see what it does. Basically you are doing a manual grub install.

well i'm looking right now at the linux partition(from windows) but stuff seems ok
here is my grub.conf
Code:
# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
#          root (hd1,0)
#          kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
#          initrd /initrd-version.img
#boot=/dev/sda
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd1,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu

	root (hd1,0)
	kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
	initrd /initrd-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp.img

	initrd /initrd-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4.img

	rootnoverify (hd0,1)
	chainloader +1

If I understand you correctly. you have 2 hd's. The first one is windows and the second one is linux. You select which drive to boot from bios. If you disconnect the first hd. Can you check if grub is working from the MBR on the second hd? If not you can try to grub-install grub in the MBR on that hd again (can't hurt your windows drive, thats disconnect)

If that works I would try booting it again. If this bring up grub see if it boots. you should atleast get some signal of live from grub.

If not this one has me dazzled aswell...

I do notice something. Are you sure that windows is located in (hd0,1) and not (hd0,0)? Which would be first partition on first drive. Currently it says second parition on first drive. But what happened to the first then?
