FC4 & Nvidia driver Problem - Failed to initialize GLX extension

Hello together,

I dont wanna open a new thread, so I just post my problems here:

- Fresh Fedora Core 4 Install - 32bit
- downloaded Nvidia Driver & installed them

Now I have Problem, that Xorg.0.log says:

(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (NVIDIA X driver not found)

and if i want to run glxinfos I get:
[root@localhost ~]# glxinfo

Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual

Could somone give me a hint?

Should I install the Nvidia-GLX & Kernel Modules via YUM from Livan Repository? Are there alread FC4 files available ?

NVIDIA Driver Versions, I tested 7667 & 7174

Yeah I had this issue as well. All I did was sh NVIDIA* --erase or uninstall can't remember which and re-installed it and it worked.

Hi,

and don't forget to setenforce 0 before you install the drivers, or glx will not work.

I fixed this one by just adding Load "glx" back into my xorg.conf, I was afraid that it would kill X on reboot, it didn't and now all my games work again.

Try this method, it works perfectly for me. had to tweak it for multimonitor. but otherwise it's cake.

I am using FC3. I am new to Linux. I have Geforce FX5700 VGA card on my computer. I have downloaded the drivers from Nvidia's website. How do I run them on 'root'. Please help.

much easier way for FC3
www.fedorafaq.org
read most of that
especially about yum and down toward the bottom about the nvidia drivers

to do anything as root
type su
then it will ask you for your password

Under "Module" do you have Load "glx" ? See this thread for more help.

Thanks very much. I have installed the drivers, and enjoying FC3. However, I still have to install modem - Intel 536EP, FC3 drivers are probably not available. May have to change my modem.
