    FC4 Install Crash

I'm consistently having an issue with Disk 1 abruptly exiting the installation. I've tried three different ISOs and all three have passed the disk check portion of installation (the text menu that prompts you to test media before beginning installation).

    1. I never ran "sha1sum -c SHA1SUM" If the media passes the in-install disk check does this imply a valid disk?

    2. I never ran "linux mediacheck" If the media passes the in-install disk check does this imply a valid disk?

    3. Two of the three ISOs failed intially during the disk check, then passed after running a second time. Does this imply anything?

Are you burning the disks faster than 16x? If so, you may want to slow down to 8x or 16x.

Yep, I've been burning at 24x. I'll try 8x when I get home from work.

    Thanks,

I've had the same problems on my Dell Inspiron 4000 trying to install both FC3 and FC4. It always crashes during the installation just before it formats new partitions (for a clean install, and letting Fedora setup partitions automatically). To get around this last night I had to do a text based install and set my partitions myself. I'm not sure about the writing speed when I burn the CDs, but I do know that I've used exactly the same burn settings for Slackware 10.1 and Ubuntu Hoary and have had no problems with the installtion of either of those.

Well, I've burned a new Disk 1 at 8x and still no luck. I'm consistently dieing while files are being copied over. Previously I was getting a message that installation exited abnormally and it was safe to reboot. This time I simply crashed back to the boot sequence with the last message showing "Starting graphical installation..."

    Any ideas?

install in text mode only. I had the same reason it must be something to do with the graphics card I think.

Ok, text mode isn't the solution. I've tried installing with the command "text acpi=off" and the result is the same (I tried "text" last night). Somewhere around 40% of file transfer installation exits abruptly. I have no idea what to try.

This is an AMD K6-2 box that I previously had RH9 installed on. I'm reasonably confident that I meet minimal system requirements.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on here?

All I can say is post a bug report. Thats the only way it'll get fixed.

I'm having problems with FC4 too!

I've downloaded the i386 cd's, and the i386 dvd. Tried to install from both, with NO success!
I burned @ 8x , on everything. I get the main screen, I press ENTER to install in graphical mode, it starts to boot, and then I get this, and the computer locks up:

This is the point at which it locks up, I can't turn it off, I have to disconnect the power to shut it down and then restart.

I'm hoping someone has an idea on what I need to do, please keep it as simple as possoble (language/terminology), as I am new to linux, alot of the things associated with it.

    Thank You

Try the text mode. As I said above it worked for me. I got gibberish across the screen.

Actually, I gave up on FC4 already! After everything I tried including deleting FC3 off the drive I had it on, in the hopes that that may have been the problem, I have installed CentOS 4 instead. I have to say, I already like CentOS, it looks and feels alot like fc3, but its faster, and everything seems to work! I'm a newbie at this, I pretty much have to stick with what works, and so far.....CentOS is working, easy, and out of the box.

I agree! FC4 sucks big time if they cant even get anaconda to work right by version 4. Im looking into CentOS. But most likely go with Ubunto. I also need something that works.
