wireless rt2500 driver works but PCMCIA doesnt detect card?

Hi all,

I am running FC3 completely updated (at the time of posting) on a acer Aspire 1620, Everything works just fine except for the ASUS WL-107g wireless LAN card (which is an 802.11g card with rt2500 chipset). I have compiled and loaded the driver for it as a module, but the card is not detected: lspci doesnt list it.

Could anyone tell me what I can do to make PCMCIA detect the card? or else tell me if this impossible? I don´t have a clue :-(

there is actually a project dedicated to cards with that chipset working with linux. probably be better coming from them than going through me

Yes well, thanks but I had a look around for myself first and found that site too, and, as mentioned, I installed the driver and it seems to work just fine, The problem is not with the driver or the chipset but with PCMCIA not finding the card, so the driver can´t help me much further...

No, thanks for trying to help! I really don´t know anything about pcmcia or drivers or anything related, I am just trying to get this thing working and seem to stumble against problems of which I don´t even know the nature or where to look for answers too at all ... so if you have any other suggestions, I would be gratefull! Even if you would say that it probably is hopeless to get it working it would be a big help for me!

How old is the laptop? I seem to recall reading somewhere that there was a change in the pcmcia specifications. Newer systems can support cards that use a Card Bus specification. Older systems only understand the orginal PCMCIA specification.

Could your laptop have PCMCIA slots that only support the older style cards? Might explain why you don't see it listed via lspci.

It's an acer Aspire 1620. I think it is a cardbus card (it says so on the box) and the card works under Wiindows (but I don't) so I guess that is not the problem ...

Was a thought.

You did verify that pcmcia services have been started?

And you don't see any error messages in the log files?

You have tried inserting the card after boot up and before boot up?
