Question rhythmbox and xmms won't play mp3's

I've tried everything, but i can't get rhythmbox or xmms to play mp3 files. I've tried
yum install xmms-mp3 and
yum install gstreamer-plugins-mp3

but i keep getting the following error

No Match for argument: xmms-mp3
Nothing to do

or

No Match for argument: gstreamer-plugins-mp3
Nothing to do

I don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John

xmms-mp3 and gstreamer-plugins-mp3 are not on the default repositories. you have to configure dag, dries, freshrpms, or atrpms to download those (or all of them as i do. just done mix them with livna/fedora.us).

check here: http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/FAQ.php

Ok, I am new to linux. I installed the newest freetype rpm and still can't get either xmms or rhythmbox to play mp3's. When I say i am new to linux, I mean I am NEW. I do appreciate the monitor info you gave me, but I am lost when you're talking about configuring dag, dries, freshrpms, or atrpms. I can get Real Player to play mp3's, but maybe I'm being picky and wanting to have something similar to WinAmp. I do appreciate all the info you've given me bytesniper. Thanks.

the reason mp3 support isnt included with fedora out-of-the-box is becuase of copyright .. stuff.. so really cool people have set up third pary rpm repositories for everything that either the offical fedora repositories wont include or cannot include. that link that i included in my first post is actually a step by step walkthrough to setting yum to these other repositories which you will need. i cant give you a better step by step than Dag can

it could be that livna is conflicting. remove rhythmbos & plugins, then install like so:

brian]# yum -y --disablerepo=livna install gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-mp3 rhythmbox
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
