Fedora Core 4 test3 Sound Problem

Hi,

I have a sound problem in FC4T3.
My Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 with a sound card chipset intel 82801 DB/DBM..AC'97

When I run the sound card detection utility in Gnome, it finds my sound card , however when I choose to play test sound - no sound.
I understand that FC4T3 comes with ALSA driver installed so there is no need to install this again.
However I downloaded the ALSA latest release and try to install. It comes up with an error like it cannot find source kernel files or something like that. I don't whant to install the kernel source and recompile this. It should work out of the box right?

All the volume controls are set up right so there is no MUTE/unmute problem.

I remember that during the install I answer No to the Sound Detection process.

Could be this a modprobe.conf configuration problem?

What I found in alsamixer was that the External Amplifer option has to be enabled in order to get sound out of the speakers. I use the same Intel Chipset on my Dell and had the same problem in FC4T3.

In root run alsamixer and scroll all the way to the right. That option all the way on the end should be the External Amplifier. Enable that, and make sure your mic volume is all the way down, and your sound should work.

Shambles - just installed FC4 and no sound. I used your suggestion above, but do not see how to 'enable' the feature. The last item in the alsamixer entry is <AD Input> and it says it is 'off'. Can you advise how to change this to 'on' (assuming that <AD Input> is the problem with no sound).

u can use "m" to mute or unmute, that will enable the ON/OFF

I just installed Fedora Core 4 and I'm having problems getting my sound to work as well. It worked fine on the earlier releases of Fedora. I tried the alsamixer method with the external amp, no joy. Any other ideas?

In order to view the external amplifier u should go to edit ->preferences and u click on external amplifier, and then u can view it and enable it. I had the same prob, on FC3 it worked very well, on FC4, it detects my sound card but no sound, and by doing this, it works just fine

I have the same problem. I have kernel 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4. My sound card is Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 04). I have set the external amplifier on and both set master volume and pcm volume to maximum using alsamixer. However the sound doesn't work. I also have Phillips PSC805 USB sound card. If anybody has info on how to get the sound to work, it'll be appreciated.
