Installed 2.6.11 Kernel- xwindows menus down't work

I installed the new 2.6.11 kernel from Fedora (built from the 2.6.11-1.27_FC3.src.rpm.) That wen't well but after booting into the new kernel, kde or gnome will start but I can't get any of the menus to do anything. About all I can do is ctrl-alt-backspace. I have already reinstalled the newest xorg rpms. If I boot into the old kernel, Xwindows still works properly. This is true for both root and a non root login.

Perhaps you have installed some driver that needs recompiling for the new kernel? Something for mouse or mousepad perhaps?
Any error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

More symptoms

I'm not sure what I could have installed to crate this problem except for the new kernel build. However, I went back into KDE and used alt-f1 to bring up menus. That brings up the menus, and I can navigate to whatever program I want to start. I can start the program and use tab keys to move to different selections on the menu. Also, when i click on a window it does not highlight. Hmmm, maybe I did goof up the mouse settings. I'll try to figure out how to reconfigure my mouse without a mouse.

Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to an ascii console and look for /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Switch back to X with Ctrl-Alt-F7 and kill the X session with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to try the new config.

Problem solved

Thanks for your input. I had updated the kernel and updated X but nothing else. Yum was taking over 2 days to update the system from the default ISO install. I just couldn't wait that long. Finally I built my own yum servers, downloaded all the updates to that server and yum took less than an hour. Thanks linuxhomenetworking.com. Thanks Birger too. One note on the ctl-alt-f1 thing is that I end up with junk on the screen but no usable shell. However ctrl-alt-f2 - f6 work fine and I'm happy with that.

The solution was either updating to the latest version of everything, or some combination of the ctrl-alt-f2 /ctrl-alt-f7 and then ctrl-alt-backspace reseting some X temp config file solved the problem. I hate it when I don't have a definitive answer but the results were good.
