Fedora Core 4 on Dell Inspiron 6000 - No sound, Wireless

I have just installed FC4 test 3 on my inspiron 6000 notebook (i also have windows XP on the other half). Every went well except there is no sound. FC4 recognizes the hardware but no sound. It also recognizes my internal wireless 2200bg but could connect to the Internet. I googled around and found some usefull posts but still no luck (after updated firmware and install driver). I am new to linux. Anyone got the same notebook and got them to work correctly? Could you give details on how to make these things work. Thanks.

all sound is muted when an alsa driver is installed. check kmix, or from the commane line try alsamixer, to see if its just muted. not sure about the wireless card.

Did you check the simple stuff first? You can go to sytem settings and then click on the soundcard detection. And you'll see a little test sound button. You can use that to see if it is actually detecting what you really have in there. Also, are you sure you don't have any of your sound devices muted? And if you have done all that, um, sorry, but I'm just a newb.

About the sound, I went to Sound Card Detection and did a test, but heard nothing. I also check all volumes in Volume control, un-muted everything, but still no sound. Anyone experienced this? Here is what I got in Sound Card Detection:
Vendor: Intel
Model: Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller
Module: snd-intel8x0

Same thing, same hardware on an 8600. Thought I was going crazy on this one... lol

Anyone have any ideas?

Which driver for the wireless card did you install?

For the sound part, in kmix on the 3th tab there are some switches, I think you have to enable/disable one or more of them if you still don't have sound after turning the volume up and unmuting.

Bingo, it's "External Amplifier". No idea why it is, but that was the fix. Thanks a ton =)

Funny thing is my Dell Inspiron 6000 worked fine in FC3...

So what do I do to get sound again???

OK, since you guys have the same thing in common (Same laptop)... perhaps you fixed an issue I had with FC3 & now FC4... Has anyone ever gotten FC3 or FC4 to recognize the Intel 915 Graphics driver? I cannot use xine to play DVDs until that is fixed... and I just do not want to use the standard VESA driver... Has anyone gotten the Dell Inspiron to use the 915 driver instead of the VESA driver?

Banjo, you got the same machine as mine 6000. How did you get the wireless thing working ? Can you show me how? I tried FC3 too, but still couldn't get the internal wireless connected to internet. Thanks mate.

I didn't install any driver. Therefore I think FC4 has default driver for my internal wireless card. I see it in Network Hardware.

Do not be disappointed... but I used a PC Card (Linksys WPC11 v3 or Microsoft MN520 Wireless B)

Did you get your graphics card to work???

ARe you talking about yoru Graphics card? I need to knwo if you got your graphics card to work and NOT use the standar VESA driver...
