Login issue with Fedora Core 3 after OOo upgrade

My system was working fine until I updated OpenOffice tonight. I Logged out as myself, logged in as root, and did the install. Fine. I logged back out and now when I try to log back in as myself, the login screens go away, the system pauses (with a blank dark blue/black screen w/ pointer arrow), for about 10 seconds and then goes back to the login screen. I can still login as root and the system is fine, but it won't go to the desktop with my normal name and password.

Note that it doesn't error out, or tell me my name/password is invalid....it just doesn't boot to the desktop.

if you boot to runlevel 3 and log in as your user (not root) and then type startx it should give you much more detailed information.

you can also type: tail -50 /var/log/Xorg.0.log and see if you can discern any usable information from it.
