DVD rom and DVDrw mounting problem

I have two drives: DVD ROM and DVD RW. I put a CD in either, try to mount, and...
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: block device /dev/hdc is write-protected, mounting read-only
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: /dev/hdc: can't read superblock.
Suggestions?
Sorry I'm a little new, someday I'll be able to give the help back, I swear.
