Hey,
I've 1/2 finished a INSTALL help how-to on my site:
http://s-computers.dyndns.org:8000/h...uxinstall.php?
That might help.
You can get the best distrubution, (<-- The name given to a type of linux, as there about 50!) Fedora Core 3, at http://download.fedora.redhat.com .
Good luck!

first of all, welcome =)

you might want to check out the linux distribution that fits your needs at http://distrowatch.com (there are MORE than 50 ^_^ )

anyway i suggest you to start with a easy-installation one, such as Fedora or Mandrake. When you have learned enough you can try more "difficult" distro such as gentoo (which you must compile it all!) - there isn't the "perfect" distribution, there are many and you have to choose the one for your needs - for mine, fedora does the job , it's easy and runs at a nice speed

cheers ^^

you may also want to try Xandros and SuSe. xandros is a LOT like Windows, but yet eases you into linux. i haven't used this version of suse, so i can't comment on it but SuSe is usually pretty n00b compatible

good luck, & stick with it! you won't gain anything if you just give up
