Talking GFS, cman, dlm, etc.

Greetings Everyone:

I have been able to determine what GFS is and what it does sort of. I can't find anything on the internet that explains cman and dlm. Can anyone help for curiousity sake?

Thanks in advance for the answers...

Seems cluster related. GFS is global file system, a clustering file system.

Red Hat GFS (Global File System) is a clustering filesystem for creating and managing storage pools. CMAN is the cluster manager and DLM is Device Locking Manager. All of these technologies are related to GFS

More information on this is available from the following guide

thanks for the information! I appreciate the precise and concise answer! In a desktop system, I do not think that I will have any application for this! Is there a purpose for a single desktop machine?

GFS wouldnt be normally useful in a single user desktop but the above guide has information on how you can use GFS in a single machine for demonstration purposes. If you are a developer interested in clustering filesystems you have the code available to tinker with.
