Planeshift for Linux (MMORPG)

Planeshift is another one of those MMORPG's, except the difference is its free to play, download, etc, and licensed under the GPL (for the most part, art is copyrighted).

http://www.planeshift.it/

Ok I don't know if its the right place to put this but there isn't a gaming forum.

The download is about 250 mb + some automated updates when you start (of about 20 mb). Looks fairly good for an open source project...

Allegedly I think
"This game was made by nvidia employees combined with other people who had nothing better to do with their time"

The part of the post above is taken from another forum post from a local gaming forums.

I personally am yet to try it but I'll be having a good look at this later today if god willing my power comes back on. (curse you mini-tornado)

I can't wait to give it a go

I tried it a while ago, before it was anything interesting.
It seemed to be incredibly slow (although my system isn't exactly state-of-the-art).
I tried it again more recently and the linux version just flat out didn't work.

Unfortunately I couldn't view the forums (it couldn't load them) but the graphics look quite nice for what it is. When I get my linux system(s) running I may give it a go. Also, I think that this should have been posted in the Wibble forum which is for Non-Fedora related topics (even if it is a Fedora game it just seems more appropriate here), anyway, if a moderator views this they will no where to put it.

I tried out PlaneShift about 4 months ago, but I never liked it. The graphics just suck and it's really hard to play.

Graphics have very ltitle to do with how good a game is. Mario in my opinion is still one of th ebest games around and it's simple sprites and pixles. No models, no textures. Pure pixlation. No as for hard? How is that a downfall for a game? Theres nothing better than a challenge.

Like twiisted chaos said, graphics mean nothing. For example, Lugaru, a great and very enjoyable game made by one person has dodgy graphics but it makes no difference to gameplay. Most games start of being quite difficult to master but after practise it becomes just as easy as other games.

Haha, I found Lugaru back when I was using windows. It was quite a good game. Difficult by the game idea was superior :P
