Question modprobe hogging resources

Hi.

Noticed on my laptop with FC3 installed that the temp was around 63C. Thought it was Boinc that was running the CPU too hot, however, top showed that modprobe was taking up some 97% of the CPU time which apparently drove up the temp of the CPU. As far as I've understood, modprobe shouldn't be run as such. I tried to kill it as root but to no effect, even tied with -9. The only thing to get it turned off was to reboot the machine.

Has anyone else run into this? What has caused it?
