yum worked alright imy fc4t2 installation

i did not try yum update

there was network icon saying 409 updates available

why dont u try that redhat updater

may be u have todo full install not the default packages

anyway mirror not available how can we help?

the red hat updater works nicely only it asks u to update kernel first

and then others

yum install synaptic worked fine

yum install xmms worked fine

apt we can try

I have FC4T3 - identical error message, identical problem as powereds - can't use redhat updater, as it hangs on the progress dialog with this message "Red Hat Update Agent is building a list of updated RPM packages installed on your system. Please wait."

Any ideas?

can't install apt without dependencies one of which being librpm-4.3.so - I'm doing my best, but I'm lame with dependencies!! (which is why I need yum, or up2date, or something!!!)

i just reinstalled fedorac4 t2
the redhat updater works just fine

yum install apt will find its own dependncs and will install

first it will ask for redhat up2date key import or some thing like that

launch up2date from the up2date icon on top right desktop

this will give u chance to install a key

then it will go through cllecting installed package info etc etc

then come back to terminal and type yum install apt

it will go through by itself

its working like that in my m/c

this takes some time u may think its stuck

but after about 5 minutes or so up2date will show u 2 kernel updates to select in up2date

from there u can go on as per dialog

in the meanwhile at the terminal it would have added some packages and ask u if u want to download apt etc etc
say yes
after some time it will say it has impoted key for installing and blah blah

then it will install apt

i think only after these hasles the yum starts working

these r my live screen descriptions

it may help u or may not

but it takes lot of time to get any response from any of these commands

be patient it may work

invoke up2date and go ahead

all the best

now in my system it has started upgrading the kernel

will joinu later

My yum problems are over! You just have to edit yum.conf and .repo files, replacing "$releasever" with "development"

I found this post instructive:

Cheers!

I'm not sure if you wanted/needed this (don't completely understand your post ) but in case you did - here's what I did exactly...
Code:
gedit "/etc/yum.conf"
then replaced all instances of "$releasever" with "development"

After this, I edited my individual .repo files (you only have these if you make them yourself)
Code:
gedit "/etc/yum.repos.d/fresh.repo"
and did the same thing.

fresh.repo is just an example...

Hope this is useful to somebody - apparently we'll have no more problems on this count once the final version is updated and the repositories are updated seriously.

As with my case the problem has already been solved. My linux box is under a proxy server so i have to configure first the proxy settings of my linux box. I also notice that the same error will come out if you try to install packages that is not found on your repos.
