Question FC3 Crashes during shutdown

Hi!

I have a problem with my fedora core 3 install.
Sometimes when i want to shutdown, the system freezes Nothing works then.
When it happens that it freezes, the gnome panels are already quited and i see just the background image.
The mouse doesn't move, and I can't switch to another tty. When i plug off and plug in the usb-mouse again, the light on the mouse does't beginn to light.
I don't know on what it depends whether or not the system crashes. I looked into
the logfiles, but there is nothing useful.
The only thing I can tell you is, that i have this problem just with kernel 2.6.11 .
But this happens just since the last 2 weeks. before everything worked well.
I tested with knoppix, but it also worked well. I also made a memtest, with no result.
now i switched back to 2.6.10. I hope that i don't have this problem now. But i'll have
to test a bit.

Has anybody an idea, if this is a hardware or a software problem, and maybe where
i can look for error messages?

thanx in advance, komi

I have the same problem. The crash doesn't always happen in the same place. Sometimes it might be that ipchains isn't shutting down properly or then it (mostly) crashes to the text "System is shutting down". Go figure. I posted a question here regarding this but no luck so far. I think it is kernel related (with the new kernel) but I am not sure.
