How does this bridged network device setup? Which network card? You've tried setting it up with the Network configuration tool under system settings, correct?

ive tired the network config tool under system tools. it was inactive but i changed that the active.

i did believe it was a problem with the network cable, but then i tired to connect the canble directly into the laptop and reboot, but again the screen would freeze at startup when it tired to bridge the network eth0, so if i remove the cable it will go through and boot as normal.

any ideas?
