install fc3 on dell optiplex gx150

I am trying to install fc3 on dell optiplex gx150. The initiall bootup screen seems to work fine, however, when continuing to install fc3, it must've detected the wrong video driver and I get a screen which has rainbow colored lines and the computer is frozen at this point. did any body else run into this issue?

Hi vluk,

Did you get your issue resolved? I am having the same problem too. I would appreciate if you could share how you fixed the issue.

Thx,
Rommel

The embedded Intel I810 video graphics adapters do have a driver problem. There are several threads here that discuss the possible fixes.

got video working but now sound doesn't work

so I was able to get around the video issue by playing with my bios setting to detect on-board video. However, I still cannot get my sound issue resolved. linux seems to recognize the sound card since if I disable it from the bios, the next time I boot up it seems to notice that the sound card is missing however, I am not getting any sound when i do sound tests and at gnome initial boot up, it says that sound card is not properly set up.

any ideas?

Unfortunately, not a Lot.

You might try troubleshooting through either the Control Center or running system-config-soundcard. I guess it depends on whether drivers are available for the embedded devices. Dell probably won't have them, so you might have to track them down through other sources.

Have you used up2date to make sure everything is current?

Check in alsamixer that the channels are not muted, also sometimes playing with the External amp and Line Jack Sense options can get it working.

For the video option, if anybody is still having it

add the option "NoAccell" to the xorg.conf file, it will fix the scrambled video on the 810

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver " i810"
VenderName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "Intel 810"
option "noaccel"
EndSection

What version of FC? If it is 3 then you need to update your XORG files and your Kernel. This will fix the driver issues. Boot into console and doe this:

yum update x* <----- This will update only the XORG packages.

Then do

yum update kerne* <------ This will update your kernel.

That should resolve your driver issues.

Thanks all for your help. I added the option "noaccel" in the xorg.conf and it fixed the problem just fine. Then I updated the kernel and the xorg packages and removed the "noaccel" option afterwards and fedora is running smoothly now.

Thanks again,
