Unhappy cd player shows cd playing but no sound

I am having a lot of trouble here. I am new to linux and figured out a lot but this and also playing DVD's is causing me problems. Anyone know how I can fix this. Thanks

OK. Open KMix or GNOMEMixer [I don't know what it is called in GNOME].

Go to The input section. It is likely that your CD Volume was set back to 0.

Oh, and use Xine to play DVDs, if you do not have a good Video Player [at least FC2 doesn't come with one]

Go to xine.sf.net and get the precompiled binaries for fedora

CPT - You might try going to 'volume control' - in system I think - anyway, once open, look at the 'mic' and observe if it is muted. If not, try setting it as 'mute', same with 'headphones' (?). Muting both these units seemed to make my system worked.

If you are using XMMS to play your audio cd's...check out the "preferences" and then "output settings"
It should be set to "alsa" ..sometimes "oss" will work as well.
I use XINE to play DVD's never had much problem with it....
