installing modules using cpan

I have bumbed into a problem which I cannot solve. I used to install cpan modules using the perl -MCPAN -e "shell", lately I do not know what happened but I cannot install any module at all it gives the following error after downloading the package and unwrapping them.

/usr/bin/make -- NOT OK
Running make test
Can't test without successful make
Running make install
make had returned bad status, install seems impossible

if anyone has come across/solved/knows how to solve please help

Michael.

Need some more error output. Try to find some make log files with the specific commands that failed.
